Dr. Ross Freeman

Dr. Freeman grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and studied chemistry at Indiana University. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with “High Academic Distinction” from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2011.  Striving for academic excellence, Dr. Freeman graduated #2 in his dental school class of 106 students.

Upon graduation, Dr. Freeman was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society which elects only 12% of the graduating class based on ethical character and academic excellence.  In addition, Dr. Freeman was awarded the Glenn J. Pell Award in which only one student is chosen for oral surgery excellence.  Dr. Freeman was also awarded the Anesthesiology Horace Wells Award in which only one student is selected for distinction in the field of dental anesthesiology.

After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Freeman was accepted into Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the prestigious Indiana University Medical Center.  He completed four years of surgical training in 2015 which included reconstructive jaw and facial surgery, TMJ joint surgery, and treatment of cancer and tumors.  He worked closely with the craniofacial and facial plastics teams in the repair of cleft lip and palate.  While being on call at three different level 1 trauma centers, he obtained extensive surgical training in adult and pediatric facial trauma including maxillofacial, jaw, and orbital fractures.

During his residency, he had the opportunity to train under his father, Dr. Stephen Freeman, who is a renowned microvascular and reconstructive head and neck cancer surgeon.  Under his father, he performed numerous surgical tracheostomies in addition to cancer reconstruction surgeries.

While in residency, Dr. Freeman obtained extensive training in anesthesia including pediatrics.  He completed hundreds of general anesthesia cases at one of the top anesthesia programs in the nation.

After finishing residency and receiving his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Freeman wanted to distinguish himself from other oral surgeons by undergoing the rigorous process of becoming Board Certified.  Despite a pass rate of only 70% among surgeons who attempt the boards, Dr. Freeman passed his oral board exam on first attempt in 2017.

Relying on his extensive surgical background, Dr. Freeman has now honed his skills and focuses mainly on oral surgery, anesthesia, and dental implants.  He has performed over 5,000 IV sedations, performed over 50,000 dental and wisdom tooth extractions, and placed over 5,000 dental implants.  Dr. Freeman is also one of the few surgeons who are skilled enough to perform “All-on-4” or “All-on-X” full mouth dental implant reconstructions.  He subspecializes in this procedure as it is the most advanced and technique sensitive dental implant surgery.  He really enjoys this procedure because it is life changing and provides patients with a newfound confidence and beautiful smile.

Wisdom teeth removal with IV sedation is one of the most common procedures that Dr. Freeman performs due the fact that wisdom teeth commonly cause pain and discomfort for most adolescents and young adults.  This is a very easy surgery for him and he enjoys helping his patients through the process.

After years of living as a “Hoosier” in the state of Indiana, Dr. Freeman now resides in Southwest Florida with his wife, 3 children, and red maltipoo named Finnegan who goes by “Fin.”  Dr. Freeman and his wife named their dog Fin after their passion for the ocean.  Dr. Freeman is an avid scuba diver and enjoys cave diving, wreck diving, and shark diving.  He also enjoys kiteboarding at the skyway bridge in St Peterburg Florida.  His children also love the water and can be seen sailing in youth regattas all over the state of Florida.  With his family, he has sailed countless miles in remote areas of the Caribbean including St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Exumas.
